New Report Suggests Lil Peep Was Surrounded by Enablers During His Final Days

Written by on March 9, 2019

A new Rolling Stone report provides an unsettling look into final days of Lil Peep, the 21-year-old rapper who died of an accidental overdose in late 2017.

The story is a culmination of thorough research and interview with those who were closest to Peep. Journalist David Peisner heard accounts from the rapper’s friends, family, and business associates, and examined thousands of text messages as well as autopsy, police, and toxicology reports.

“It paints a picture of an artist who was headed for stardom, but who was also taking a variety of drugs and struggling with depression, anxiety and career pressures, all of which he talked about openly,” Peisner wrote about the piece.

Among the more disturbing revelations is that Peep seemed to be surrounded by a number of enablers prior to his Nov. 15, 2017, death. The story points to a series of texts the rapper received from his manager Chase Ortega and Sarah Stennett—the CEO of his record label First Access.

“Cool for sarah to call you? She’s about to get to NYC. Also she has canal for you lol […] *xanax,” Ortega wrote to Peep on Aug. 16, 2017.

Stennett sent the following texts later that day: “I’m about to land at JFK. I have one 2m x and 4 x .25. Are u close to airport […] I can pop by and say hi or u can get in morning. Let me know.”

It is believed that Stennett was referring to the 2-milligram and .25-milligram doses of Xanax. The CEO addressed the shocking texts through her attorney, insisting she never gave any kind of drugs to Peep. Stennett claimed that there was one occasion in which Peep was having severe anxiety over scheduled interviews, and that she thought “it would make him feel better and calm him if she said what she thought he wanted to hear … although she actually had no intention of giving him any medication.”

A number of sources also claimed Belinda Mercer, the manager of Peep’s final tour, supplied the rapper with ketamine on at least one occasion. The tour’s opening act Mackned told Rolling Stone that Mercer would use the drug “as leverage.”

“Belinda, she’s kind of a pimp,” he said. “She kept us in line with drugs. We were like her ho’s. We were f*cking ketamine ho’s.”

Mercer also denied the allegations through her attorney. Per Rolling Stone: “Further, Mercer’s lawyer stated that others on the tour were frequent drug users whose accounts may be unreliable.”
