The latter was Nolan’s latest big picture success, which earned him his first Best Director nomination, in addition to grossing $526.9 worldwide.
The distribution on all of the director’s films since 2002’s Insomnia have been handled by Warner Bros. Nolan is known for keeping his film’s away from the public eye prior to their debuts. His famed reputation also allows him to secure big name actors while preserving the film’s secrecy.
During an appearance at BAFTA: A Life in Pictures, Nolan commented on why fans may believe his Batman films are better than the Ben Affleck-led versions. “I think it was the last time that anyone was able to say to a studio, ‘I might do another one, but it will be four years’. There’s too much pressure on release schedules to let people do that now but creatively it’s a huge advantage. We had the privilege and advantage to develop as people and as storytellers and then bring the family back together.”
