Written by on January 26, 2019

It’s official: Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming Warner Bros. “event” film is set to be released in the July 17, 2020, Deadline reports. The name of the movie has yet to be disclosed however it is scheduled to also be released in Imax.

Nolan is no stranger to late-July releases. The acclaimed director released both Batman films, Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises, Inception, which grossed over $828 million worldwide, as well as the three-time Oscar-winner Dunkirk, the third weekend of July. The latter was Nolan’s latest big picture success, which earned him his first Best Director nomination, in addition to grossing $526.9 worldwide.

The distribution on all of the director’s films since 2002’s Insomnia have been handled by Warner Bros. Nolan is known for keeping his film’s away from the public eye prior to their debuts. His famed reputation also allows him to secure big name actors while preserving the film’s secrecy.

During an appearance at BAFTA: A Life in Pictures, Nolan commented on why fans may believe his Batman films are better than the Ben Affleck-led versions. “I think it was the last time that anyone was able to say to a studio, ‘I might do another one, but it will be four years’. There’s too much pressure on release schedules to let people do that now but creatively it’s a huge advantage. We had the privilege and advantage to develop as people and as storytellers and then bring the family back together.”
