NH Police to Local Rappers: ‘Please Stop Taking Your Horses Down to Our Old Town Road’

Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road” has created a bit of a problem for a small New Hampshire town.
The hit single has apparently prompted a horde of aspiring rappers to visit the area’s real-life Old Town Road. This, of course, has caused some disturbance in the town with a population of about 2,000, so much so that the Marlborough Police Department released a PSA asking the public to stop taking their horses down the road for amateur video shoots.
“ATTENTION ASPIRING LOCAL RAPPERS: Please stop taking your horses down to our Old Town Road,” the department recently wrote on Facebook. “This quiet neighborhood off Troy Road is not a suitable filming location for your amateur rap videos. For our older followers, please disregard this pop culture reference and continue your equestrian activities as usual.”
As of Friday night, the post had garnered more than 4,000 shares, over 1,200 comments, and about 3,600 reactions. Many Facebook users criticized law enforcement for trying to prevent access to a public space; but as proven in the department’s follow-up comment, the PSA was all in good fun: “#Satire#DontGetYourReinsInABunch,” Marlborough Police wrote.
“Old Town Road” has become one of 2019’s biggest hits, thanks in large part to the “Yeehaw Challenge” meme on TikTok. The song has topped multiple music charts and gone triple platinum in the United States.
