Nicki Minaj Sheds Light on Retirement Announcement and Upcoming Wedding

Nicki Minaj shocked the world last month when she tweeted out her impromptu retirement from music. During a conversation with the Shade Room, Minaj decided to provide some clarity on this announcement.
“The retirement was talking about my album, meaning do I want to go back and record my fifth album,” the rapper said after explaining that she’s still completing feature verses for other artists.
In September, Nicki sent out a tweet that read: “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me.”
This sent the Barbz into a frenzy, forcing Minaj to delete the post. Although she’s still toying with the idea of retirement, the artist acknowledges she might have put an unfair amount of stress on her fans by the way she revealed the information. “I didn’t know my fans were going to act like that,” she continued. “It hurt my feelings because I feel like the way I did it might have been insensitive to my fans… I didn’t know that it was going to be that big of a deal. That’s why I deleted it.”
Coinciding with Minaj’s possible retirement is her marriage (or lack thereof) to partner, Kenneth Petty. As she stated, Minaj wants to start a family with Petty. In July, E! News reported that Minaj and Petty officially obtained a marriage license from the Beverly Hills courthouse. The license is only good for 90 days and that window is quickly closing. When asked about this, Minaj said that she and Petty will “definitely do the paperwork portion of the marriage” but the big ceremony is still pending.
“You know when you’re a little girl and you want this big beautiful wedding, and I used to think I was one of those girls, I always wanted the fairytale,” Nicki said. “But then the things that used to matter to you don’t matter as much… I’m madly in love with this man, he’s also my best friend, the things that used to matter to me before, don’t matter as much now. So yes, we’re going to have a big wedding eventually.”
