Nipsey Hussle’s Brother Supporting His Sister in Custody Battle Over Rapper’s Daughter

Nipsey Hussle’s brother, Samiel Asghedom or Blacc Sam, is supporting his sister Samantha Smith, in her efforts to obtain guardianship over the late rapper’s 10-year-old daughter, Emani Asghedom. 

Smith is hoping to prevent Emani’s mother, Tanisha Foster, from obtaining custody of her and Nipsey’s child, as she believes Foster is incapable of properly caring for her, according to court documents obtained by The Blast. Earlier this month, a judge denied Smith’s request for an emergency order that would have granted her temporary guardianship of Emani, citing a lack of urgency. Smith attempted to conceal the request from Tanisha, however the judge ruled that the child’s mother must be made aware of the hearing. 

According to the heavily redacted paperwork, the family is hoping that with Blacc Sam’s endorsement, Smith’s custody case against Foster will be bolstered. Hussle’s sister argued that she sought the temporary guardianship “to ensure that she [Emani] can continue to live with family members with whom she has always had close ties.” Smith also claims that throughout Emani’s life, she has helped care for the child whenever needed.

Hussle and Foster were granted joint custody over Emani in 2013, with her mother caring for her during the week and the late rapper taking her on weekends. However, Nipsey’s sister has argued that Emani was effectively spending the majority of her time with Hussle, who ultimately became her primary caretaker until he was murdered on March 31.

Hussle had another child with longtime girlfriend Lauren London, 2-year-old Kross Asghedom. Custody over the late rapper’s youngest is not in dispute as he currently lives with his mother. 

There will be a hearing on May 14th, during which Smith and Foster will make their cases for why each of them should be entrusted with Emani.
