Nipsey Hussle’s ‘Victory Lap’ Returns to the Billboard 200 at No. 2

Written by on April 8, 2019

Billboard confirmed on Sunday that Billie Eilish had debuted at No. 1 with her album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? The 17-year-old musician isn’t the only L.A. native to break the top five, however, as Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap re-entered the chart at No. 2 after previously peaking at No. 4 when it released in Feb. 2018.

Victory Lap earned 66,000 equivalent album units for the week ending April 4, gaining a 2,244 percent increase over the previous week’s performance. 17,000 of that figure was album sales, which rose 7,205 percent.

Elsewhere on the chart, four of Nipsey’s previously released mixtapes have made their debut: 2013’s Crenshaw, 2016’s Slauson Boy 2, 2010’s The Marathon, and 2014’s Mailbox Money hit No. 63, 109, 179, and 192 respectively.

Following the death of Nipsey Hussle, there has been an outpouring of support for the West Coast icon, who was admired by many for his philanthropy and commitment to giving back. It was recently proposed that an L.A. intersection should be renamed after Nip, with Ice Cube giving his approval.

Nip was shot dead outside of his Marathon Clothing store in L.A. on March 31. His death reportedly brought gang leaders across the city together for a meeting. Eric Holder, the 29-year-old man believed to be responsible for the rapper’s murder, has been arrested and charged with the murder. He has pled not guilty.
