Fans of tennis got an incredible deal out of today’s Wimbledon singles final. While they might have tuned in for a couple of hours of rallies and aces, no one could have predicted Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic would go for almost five hours in the longest singles final in the tournament’s history.
Djokovic eventually bested the 37-year-old Federer in five sets, with the game lasting three minutes shy of five hours. The win is Djokovic’s fifth Wimbledon championship and his second in a row. Djokovic said that he’s inspired by the older Federer and he still views him as something to aspire to after beating him in front of a crowd who was heavily in Federer’s favor.
As with all things intense and unusual, Twitter had thoughts about the Wimbledon final, from stanning Federer to joking about the wild length of the match.
