As the Montreal Children’s Hospital calls for public donations in aid of young Ukranian cancer patients, P.K. Subban has said he will match all donations made to the hospital’s foundation.

The former Montreal Canadien and ambassador of the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation is planning on matching each donation dollar for dollar, up to $100,000.

Many Ukrainian children whose cancer treatment has been interrupted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will be landing in Montreal soon to resume receiving medical attention, according to the foundation.

“It is difficult enough to learn that your child has cancer. It is unimaginable to have to flee your home with your sick child, away from vital support networks and everything that is familiar,” reads the foundation’s website.

Donations made will go towards accommodation, meals, travel to and from hospitals, medication, translation services, and psychological support for patients and their families.

“The Children’s needs your help to support these traumatized families so that they can focus on what is most important: helping their child get well,” says the foundation.

Subban has repped The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation for years. In 2015, he donated $10 million to the foundation, and even threw a winter wonderland themed surprise Christmas party for the kids at the hospital. He also once held a live auction for the hospital, which raised thousands of dollars.

Donations can be made on The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation’s website, and read our list of Canadian resources to help Ukraine here
