Parlux Owes Jay-Z Over $4.5 Million in Royalties, Appellate Court Rules

Written by on February 25, 2022

Just three months after he was cleared in a lawsuit that claimed he breached an endorsement deal with Parlux Fragrances, Jay-Z is on the winning end of another judgement.

Page Six reports that an appellate court ruled on Thursday that Jay and his company “are entitled to summary judgment on their royalties counterclaim.” As a result, Hov is entitled to receive $4.5 million in royalties from the perfume company.

“The record is clear: Parlux sold licensed products after July 31, 2015, but failed to pay royalties on those sales,” Justice John Higgitt wrote.

Back in November, a Manhattan jury cleared Jay-Z in his trial with Parlux, which partnered with the rapper back in 2013 for its “Gold Jay-Z” cologne. The jurors found that the hip-hop mogul was not liable for the $67.6 million in requested damages. The jury also rejected Hov’s roughly $6 million countersuit over unpaid royalties.

In a statement shared with Complex at the time, Jay-Z said, “I’d like to express my gratitude to the jury, especially during these difficult times.”

Last year’s three-week trial came nearly six years after Parlux sued Jay all the way back in January of 2016, accusing him and his S. Carter Enterprises of costing the company millions by breaching the terms of their agreement. Among the claims were that Jay refused to show up to events to promote the cologne.
