Pelicans Reportedly Agree to Trade Anthony Davis to Lakers in Multiplayer Deal

Written by on June 16, 2019

After one of the most exciting trade standoffs in recent history, the Lakers edged out other teams and won the Anthony Davis tug-of-war.

Adrian Wojnarowski shared details of the deal.

Here’s the full pick details, too.

Marc Stein adds Hornets’ Kemba Walker is a top prospect to assemble a possible Big Three in L.A.

Stein adds the Celtics are refusing to make Jayson Tatum available in trade talks with the Pelicans.

As the news broke, it was only a matter of time until Lavar Ball got word of Lonzo getting traded. He was spending his Saturday at the Drew League watching his youngest son LaMelo play and looked visibly upset.

Now, here’s his official reaction:

While Lonzo hasn’t publically reacted to the news yet, Ingram and Hart posted their reactions on their IG Stories. Take them at face value.

Magic Johnson, the former president of basketball operations for the Lakers, gave his takes on the trade.

Since his agent Rich Paul announced Davis’ request to be traded, it seemed as though the entire league was positioning itself to land the superstar center. However, the Pelicans’ played hard-to-get with their marquee player, letting it be known that they wouldn’t be rushed to move Davis. This was until the Pelicans won the NBA Draft Lottery. After acquiring assumed no. 1 pick Zion Williamson, New Orleans’ new general manager David Griffin began to open the doors to potential suitors.

On Monday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers are the “leader in the clubhouse” to land Davis and would “hypothetically” love to have a deal in place by the weekend. This follows the news that Griffin was looking for a third party team to supplement the trade packages presented by Davis’ preferred destination. The news of the Lakers’ chances to get Davis only diluted their already toxic locker room with Brandon Ingram posting a cryptic message to his Instagram Story.

Davis’ move not only caused excitement for Los Angeles, but the odds of them as championship contenders have gone up. And although it cost the team a lot of core pieces, there’s no price that can be put on the impact players like Davis bring to a franchise.

If LeBron is happy, than we’re all happy, right?
