People Are Sounding Off to Marvel Changing Punisher Logo in New Series

Marvel Comics is changing the skull logo for their popular character, The Punisher, and it has left some fans divided on their choice.
According to comicbook.com, the new logo was rolled out in a teaser panel revealed by Marvel on Monday after it was announced that they would be publishing a brand new Punisher comic series in 2022 written by Jason Aaron and with the art team of Jesus Saiz and Paul Azaceta.
The Punisher’s new look, which you can see below, features a new variation of his signature skull imprint, this time with horns protruding from the top and what almost looks like fangs coming out of the bottom.
The series is set to roll out in March 2022 run for 13 monthly issues before concluding in April 2023. Aaron described the story as one that will usher in a darker evolution for the character.
“After writing the Punisher over the years, I’ve always been fascinated by the character of Frank Castle. What moments made him the Punisher, even before that fateful day in the park? And how far will he go to win the war that has consumed his life? Spoiler: as far as it damn well takes,” he said. “This story is the destined next step in the dark and tragic evolution of Frank Castle, from troubled kid to heroic soldier to revenge-driven vigilante…to the duly anointed King of Killers. Believe me when I say, I am as excited about this story as anything I’ve ever written for Marvel.”
As for the re-imagining of the logo, The Punisher’s new design was met with some pushback from comic book fans. Some right-wing extremist groups like the Proud Boys have co-opted the iconic skull for a while now. Many comic fans knew that Frank Castle’s iconography would eventually be changed, but some are upset at Marvel’s choice with the replacement.
