People Sound Off on Super Bowl Halftime Show’s Predominantly White Drumline
Written by SOURCE on February 4, 2019
During Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi’s Super Bowl halftime performance, a drumline accompanied the artists on stage to provide an acoustic intro to Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You.” Many probably remember when Beyonce similarly incorporated a drumline into her iconic 2016 Super Bowl performance. However, the key difference between the two performances is that this year, most of the drummers were white.
Many people instantly took to Twitter to comment on the lack of racial diversity. The move was particularly disrespectful given the Super Bowl is being hosted in Atlanta, a city with some of the best historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the country.
