Written by SOURCE on March 16, 2022
The estate of the late great Phife Dawg announced that they will be releasing a posthumous album for the legendary rapper on the sixth anniversary of his passing.
Phife’s official Instagram account shared the news about the posthumous project, which is titled Forever, along with the cover art and tracklist.
“This has been a long time coming,” the caption reads. “Finally, on March 22, 2022 we release Phife ‘Forever’, the album to the world. For now, enjoy the cover art work and the track listing/credits. Longer caption on album drop date. #rootswemadeit”
Forever is set to feature Busta Rhymes, Redman, Rapsody, Q-Tip, Maseo of De La Soul, Dwele, and others. A year ago, on the fifth anniversary of his death, Phife’s estate released the J Dilla-produced single “Nutshell Part 2” featuring Busta and Redman. The track, which also came with a music video, will be included on Forever.
“Even though the family, the estate, and myself are completing Forever, I am so proud of Phife on this one,” Dion Liverpool—who is also known as DJ Rasta Root—told Complex at the time about the posthumous album. “He always spoke about giving back to his fans, they were very important to him. I know he would want them to have this album as an extension of himself.”
Ahead of Forever’s release, Phife’s estate will also be holding a Q&A moderated by Peter Rosenberg at SOBs in New York City to discuss the life and legacy of the rapper. Tickets for the event are available to purchase here.
Phife Dawg’s posthumous album Forever is due out on March 22.
