Playboi Carti Convicted of Assaulting Tour Bus Driver in Scotland

Written by on January 19, 2019

Playboi Carti was found guilty of an alleged attack on a tour bus driver.

According to the BBC, the incident occurred in February 2018 in Gretna, Scotland, during the ATL rapper’s European trek. Carti was accused of punching the driver and smashing bus windows after the vehicle experienced mechanical issues. On Thursday, the Dumfries Justice of the Peace Court convicted Carti of the charges and slapped him with a nearly $1,000 fine: $570 for the alleged assault and about $350 for the bus damages.

The altercation  took place after Carti—real name Jordan Carter—and his team were forced to transfer vehicles. The BBC reports that the heating on Carti’s tour bus began malfunctioning, and when the driver attempted to fix the problem, the bus completely crapped out and wouldn’t start again. So, a backup vehicle was sent to pick up the rapper and his entourage, but it seems the setback caused some serious tension.

Alistair MacLeish, one of the men who was in the replacement bus, told the court he had witnessed Carti assault the original driver.

“I saw things being thrown around the tour bus and then a man ran across and punched the driver on the face, cutting him and knocking his glasses off,” MacLeish said. “It was the accused Carter who had been standing with a group but as two guys tried to restrain him he wriggled past them ran across and punched the driver who stumbled back.”

Carti admitted to damaging the bus, but denied the assault. Two of his tour managers claimed the rapper was acting in self defense; however, MacLeish said the original driver “did not do anything to [Carti] and did not retaliate.”

Justice Alan Stannett sided with the drivers.
