Pop Smoke Tribute Mural Has Been Defaced in Brooklyn

Written by on December 29, 2022

A mural of Pop Smoke in his home neighborhood of Canarsie, Brooklyn has been defaced.

On Wednesday, an image of the vandalized mural shows black spray paint that reads “Woo K,” which according to HipHopDX probably means “Woo Killer.” The tag is next to Pop’s portrait rather than over it.

One person who shared the image on their Instagram Stories criticized the taggers, writing, “Word to my dead yall n***as are mad childish like wtf.”

Hattas Public Murals designed the piece in 2020 and unveiled it in July of that year, just five months after Pop Smoke was murdered in Los Angeles.

“We are honored to be painting this powerful memorial for the late Pop Smoke,” the group’s IG caption read.

The mural is located at 8125 Flatlands Avenue.

In the year following Pop Smoke’s death, vandals also reportedly targeted his gravesite in New York City’s Green-Wood Cemetery. His crypt and the marble plaque engraved with his government name were destroyed.

The late rapper’s mother, Audrey Jackson commented on the incident on IG, posting images of the damage and writing, “We cleaned up. We sat and talked to each other and to him.” In another post, she wrote, “Whoever you are, you have my attention. Now what!?
