Premiere: Clive Mercury Brings Back Grime Nostalgia With “Virginia”

With D Double E setting pace earlier this year with a grime album for the ages, North London emcee Clive Mercury has followed suit with the release of “Virginia”. The track serves as the lead single from his forthcoming EP, Grapes, due for release on December 14 via Polar Records.
The song has a gritty and dark feel, perfectly matching Clive’s grimey flow coupled with his hard-hitting lyrics. Throughout the track Clive Mercury smartly flips the word Virginia: rapping “I want a drink of Virginia; I want a trip to Virginia; I want to swim in Virginia”. The video also mirrors the sentiment of the cut, with Clive Mercury rapping in front of a council estate, backed by his mandem and sporting an authentically grime Nike tracksuit and creps.
