Premiere: Girl Unit Calls On R&B Singer Brook Baili For “24 Hours” Ahead Of Debut Album

This Friday (April 5) will see the release of Girl Unit‘s long-awaited debut album, Song Feel, via Night Slugs. Ever since the release of the I.R.L. EP, the Club Rez EP and the iconic “Wut” in the early ’10s, anticipation for a full-length project from the producer has never wavered. Although the Night Slugs producer released “Queen B” back in 2016 with the promise it was the first taste of his album, that track is sadly absent from the tracklist. However, now that the album is almost upon us—with features from Kelela, Taliwhoah, Ms. Boogie, Thast and Rush Davies—we’ve got one of the album’s key tracks, “24 Hours” with North London-based singer Brook Baili.
Judging by this single, it looks like the album will live up to its title, keeping one foot firmly planted in the club, but with an even bigger focus on songwriting than ever. R&B has never been far from Girl Unit’s palette (look up his production work for Kelela’s Cut 4 Me and Hallucinogen projects, for example) but, based on “24 Hours”, he seems to be taking that even further. For her part, Baili’s classic pop and R&B tones give the track a light and airy vibe and Girl Unit gives her all the space she needs, crafting a production that doesn’t intrude on her vocals, instead acting just as a springboard for her.
