Premiere: ‘Grime-Bap’ MC Charlie Trees Shares Visuals For New Single “Trees”

Newcomer Charlie Trees is here to make a bold statement with his new single “Trees”.
Growing up in a creative household, it was destined for Charlie to one day put pen to paper. Spending his time studying the likes of Ghetts, Dot Rotten and Eminem, all of these rhymers have helped influence his sound today. And he’s got a name for it, too: “grime-bap.”
Produced alongside both members of Yrk Rd, “Trees” sees Charlie brazenly share his love of weed as he rides the horn-heavy, moody beat. “The person I am when I go to radio sets is just one aspect of my character,” he told Complex over email. “‘Trees’ is about introducing the authentic me. It was about saying, ‘We’re the same, but we’re also different.’ I think a lot of emcees allow themselves to be restricted by the grime sound and never show who they truly are in their art. I’ve never been embarrassed to be myself.”
