Premiere: Israeli Singer-Songwriter And Producer Dennis Lloyd Vows To “Never Go Back”
Written by SOURCE on February 15, 2019
Israeli singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Dennis Lloyd is today releasing his latest single, “Never Go Back”. The track, he says, was inspired by a recent visit to Bangkok. During the year that Lloyd spent in the Thai capital he met and fell in love with a Colombian woman and ended up creating 40 songs inspired by the relationship, and then “Never Go Back” once he returned to Israel and their relationship had ended.
Sung in English and Spanish, “Never Go Back” begins as a stripped-back piece of songwriting, before the multi-instrumentalist gradually teases in more and more elements until the track’s apex. Judging by Lloyd’s explanation below, the building intensity of the track appears to mirror the passion of the relationship itself, for better or worse.
“‘Never Go Back’ is a direct continuation of the narrative of ‘Nevermind’,” Lloyd explained to Complex via email. “‘Nevermind’ was written in Bangkok at the beginning of the relationship with my ex-girlfriend and ‘Never Go Back’ was written directly following our break up in Israel. Everything I write about is based off of real emotion and life experience. I hope listeners can connect in their own way. I wrote it after we broke up during a really lonely time when I felt depressed. If I don’t feel anything, I don’t write music. But I wrote and recorded this in 45 minutes. The song is a dialogue between her and me. It’s part of a group of four songs that tells the whole story.”
