Premiere: King Promise And Wizkid Have The Globe In Their Sights On New Drop “Tokyo”
Written by SOURCE on December 7, 2018
In recent years, Ghanaian artist King Promise has built a steady rising profile, owing to solid, timely offerings and a wide-reaching mindset to collaboration that has seen him work with a string of names, from Fuse ODG and Sarkodie to Stonebwoy and Mr Eazi. Drawing in Wizkid for latest drop “Tokyo”, the pair shoot on location in stunning summertime Ghana for the visuals but, as the record attests, they have their eyes and minds on more global aspirations.
Carrying the hopes of their respective nations and the wider Afrobeats scene must come with certain pressures for both artists, but in trusting their creative intuitions, it certainly doesn’t look like either are feeling it. Catching up with King Promise on the creation of “Tokyo”, he told Complex via email:
“I made this song with Wiz and the producer Killbeatz somewhere earlier this summer. Wiz caught a vibe first and recorded the hook in one take, and that gave me so many ideas. I did mine right after as well. It was just pure, great vibes. Killbeatz made the beat right on the spot as well.”
