Premiere: Rose Noir Share Slick Cosmic Funk Instrumental “Modele V”

Written by on October 27, 2022

Multi-disciplinary producer Rose Noir is currently gearing up for the release of his new EP Bloom (due tomorrow, October 28). Last month, he revealed “Hope” a track that hinted at the promise of sounds heavily inspired by the cosmic, head-expanding jazz, funk, and soul of the 1970s, and today we get one last pre-release gem in “Modele V”, an instrumental jam that feels like Isaac Hayes or David Axelrod could jump out at any moment.

Over the years his career has taken him through London, L.A and now his current home, Paris. That globetrotting life has given his sound an amorphous quality, constantly soaking up new sounds and influences on his never-ending crate-digging quest. Naturally, comparisons to the likes of J Dilla and Madlib have come up, particularly given his knack for turntablism, but Rose Noir’s productions feel closer to film soundtracks than DJ sets and that’s especially true of the Bloom EP.

Speaking on his voracious appetite for sample-hunting and his approach to composition, he shares: “The music is definitely inspired by ‘70s movies, but also by obscure ‘70s libraries music vinyl which is what music supervisors were using as background music in movies, advertisements, TV shows etc…but also nowadays highly sought after by music enthusiasts and hip-hop producers looking for new materials to sample. I don’t have specific scenes in mind, but it’s like I’m trying to write the soundtrack of an imaginary suspense film from the past.”

Ahead of the Bloom EP’s release tomorrow, October 28 via Quality Goods Records, take in “Modele V” below and pre-save the EP here.
