Pusha-T’s Verse for Rick Ross and Lil Wayne’s “Maybach Music VI” Surfaces

Written by on August 9, 2019

On Thursday night, Rick Ross‘ tenth studio album, Port of Miami 2, was released to streaming services.

Fans quickly realized that Pusha-T‘s verse was missing from “Maybach Music VI.” The final version of the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced song only features Lil Wayne and John Legend; you can listen to that up top.

Last month, Ross told Baller Alert that he put Pusha and Lil Wayne on the same track without them knowing. Though he said he put the two rappers on the song, Ross did temper expectations a bit with a disclaimer. “What I did do was put together a record with Pusha and Wayne. Is it going to be released? We gon’ have to wait to see on Aug. 9. Because to me, it really wasn’t about doing the record.”

Upscale Vandal, who works closely with Pusha-T, took to Twitter to say that it wasn’t the DAYTONA rapper who pulled his verse from the track after finding out Wayne was also on the song.

When asked what the reason was for Pusha’s missing verse, Upscale Vandal responded: “Now that is something i don’t have the answer to.”

“What a hell of a year, true colors exposed/Crowns on these clowns, it’s like you colored they nose,” Pusha raps on his verse for “Maybach Music VI,” which surfaced the same night as Ross’ album release. These opening lines are possibly in reference to Drake, who Pusha “exposed” on “The Story of Adidon.”

Elsewhere on his verse, Pusha raps, “Sit back and let ‘em draw they own conclusions/A picture’s worth a thousand words, Mr. Houston/You wonder why cocaine’s up in every song?/When music failed, cocaine righted every wrong.” Those lines seem to be addressing comments Bobby Brown made concerning the photograph used for Pusha’s DAYTONA album. The picture in question was of Whitney Houston’s drug-filled bathroom. The photo was chosen to be used as the cover for DAYTONA by Kanye West.

“That’s really disgusting that he would do that,” Brown said at the time, per Rolling Stone. “That’s in really bad taste. Something should happen to Kanye. He’s already crazy. I knew that when I first met him. Now he’s pushing the bar a little bit. He needs somebody to slap him up or something. And I’m just the person to do it.”
