Quentin Tarantino Lands His Biggest Box Office Debut Ever

Written by on July 28, 2019

With the debut of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino has seen his best domestic opening of all time.

The film has grossed a total of $40.3 million during its debut, per Deadline. On Friday, it earned $16.85 million—including Thursday’s $5.8 million—and on Saturday, it pulled $13.36 million. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s top cities included Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Phoenix, among others.

Tarantino’s other biggest box office hits have been in the last decade: Inglourious Basterds grossed $38 million in 2009 and Django Unchained made just over $30 million during its first week in 2012.

However, Tarantino is considering leaving directing after his tenth feature, which very well might be Star Trek.

“I think when it comes to theatrical movies, I’ve come to the end of the road,” he told GQ earlier in July. “I see myself writing books and starting to write theatre, so I’ll still be creative. I just think I’ve given all I have to give to movies.”

In the last week, news surfaced that Tarantino and Uma Thurman have discussed Kill Bill Vol. 3, though it hasn’t received the green light.
