Rae Sremmurd on New Music: ‘We Dropped 3 Classic Albums Already, It’s Time for the Fourth’

To say that there’s been some confusion surrounding the current status of the powerful duo that is Rae Sremmurd would be one hell of an understatement. As recently as January, some tweeted and promptly deleted statements from Slim Jxmmi had some fans once again convinced that he and Swae Lee might really be hitting the pause button on living the Sremm life. Jxmmi, however, later clarified that it’s “Sremm 4 life.”
In their new cover story chat with Essence magazine, both Jxmmi and Lee had some high praise for the new music they’re prepping for release this year. “As for Rae Sremmurd, we dropped three classic albums already; it’s time for the fourth,” Lee said of what’s to come. “The fans have been patient. It’s time to give them what they’ve been waiting for. And I’m about to drop a solo album, composed of all original music.”
Jxmmi’s next solo entry, meanwhile, will see some experimentation with new sounds. “I hope fans enjoy it,” he said.
To be fair, we’ve been getting similarly hyped-up teases regarding new Sremm projects ever since the release of last year’s triple album SR3MM. Will the Ear Drummer signees follow a similar approach (one new group and a pair of solo releases packaged together) with their next chapter? With warmer months approaching, we’ll likely know soon enough.
