This past weekend Ironheart writer Eve L. Ewing posted a tweet showing that Robert Downey Jr./Iron Man was interested in seeing Riri Williams/Ironheart join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Downey’s two cents came after Ewing had introduced him during the Renaissance gala that took place at the Gene Siskel Film Center:

As Screen Rant points out, in 2018 a script for Ironheart made its way onto The Black List, where Hollywood writers can upload their works to be seen by agents and producers. Though it’s hard to judge based upon this sole comment, especially since Marvel prefers to churn out their own scripts, that upload was labeled as “one of the best scripts” that was read by the organization during that week.

Comicbook.com adds that that screenplay was about Riri being mentored by Tony Stark which, if you’ve seen Endgame, you’re probably aware isn’t really an option at the moment. At least not Tony Stark in his current state, though you could also argue, hypothetically of course, with Stark sacrificing himself you can tinker with an Iron Man reboot, revamp, recasting, etc. Also worth noting, however, is that Stark’s protege was sort of set up in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and that theme will reportedly be heavily built upon in next month’s Far From Home.

For those unfamiliar, especially with the massive influx of superhero-related canon that’s poured out over the past decade plus, Riri made her debut in 2015 as a teenage wunderkind who makes her own Iron Man suit. Subsequently she took over the role from Stark when he was in a coma after the events of the comic universe’s Civil War II. Comicbook.com writes that her suit had built-in Tony Stark A.I., which allowed him to mentor her.
