Rod Wave Drops Video for New Single “Cold December”

December is over and Rod Wave has fittingly brought the heat.
On Monday, the musician dropped “Cold December,” the lead single off his forthcoming, yet-to-be-titled third studio album that’s due in early 2022, alongside an accompanying video.
The trap-laced ballad finds Rod singing about his own love experiences, over a tasteful sample of Hank Williams Jr.’s “OD’d in December.” And its visual element, directed by longtime Rod collaborator Reel Goats, throws some more emotion into the mix, with Rod looking sorrowful as he has flashbacks while sitting alone during the wintertime.
“We can fall in love right here tonight, run away and be together for life,” Rod sings on the track.
It’s set to be a big year for the musician, as he’s coming off a career-shifting 2021, with his most recent studio album SoulFly having topped the Billboard 200. He later earned his 20th entry on the Billboard Hot 100 with “By Your Side” toward the tail-end of the year.
Back in December, Rod opened up about how listeners were “twisiting” a track he had recently previewed, tentatively titled “Nirvana,” that he says some took as a a “suicide letter” of sorts.
“I don’t do no attention shit, bro. I don’t,” Rod explained. “I recorded a fucking song and, um, it was about suicide or whatever. But why the fuck would people take that shit and just say that that was my suicide letter? Like, that’s not how that works. That’s not how suicide letters work. You don’t go to a studio and record suicide letters, bro.”
