After releasing The Book of Ryan, Royce da 5’9” returns with his eighth solo studio album The Allegory—a project that was formed as he was producing beats for other artists.
“This is the first album that has ever happened to me,” Royce told the Metro Times about the album, “After Book of Ryan, I didn’t have anything that I really just needed to say. I would come in here and watch TV, play around, it happened really organically … There wasn’t any pressure with this album. It was just me, in here, by myself … talking to myself.”
The Allegory is said to be one of Royce’s most powerful outputs yet, as he touches on everything from family dysfunction to financial literacy to personal freedom.
“I hope that it starts a narrative and a conversation that it’s OK to be smart, it’s OK to be hip-hop,” he said, “It’s OK to have balance.”
The album spans 22 tracks, including the previously released “I Don’t Age” and “Black Savages” featuring T.I., CyHi the Prynce, Sy Ari da Kid, and White Gold. Other contributors include DJ Premier, Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher, G Perico, and Vince Staples.
You can stream The Allegory now on Apple Music and Spotify.
