Russell Westbrook Gives Back to His Hometown With 8th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner

Written by on November 22, 2019

Russell Westbrook continues to show love to his hometown of Los Angeles.

On Thursday, the Houston Rockets star returned to his old neighborhood for the 8th annual Thanksgiving dinner, hosted by his Why Not? Foundation. The event took place at Jesse Owens Park, where Westbrook—along with his friends and family—served 600 meals to local residents.

“For me this time of year is about family and giving back when and where I can to the community that helped me become who I am today,” Westbrook said in a statement. “I’ve been coming this park (formerly named Sportsman Park) since I was a kid, so to be able to come back here and serve meals to other families and community members who may not otherwise be able to have a Thanksgiving dinner is important to me. I’m happy I got the chance to be in town this year to personally help serve meals and spend time with people in the community.”

D’s Original Take Out Grill provided the Thanksgiving meals, which included all the holiday staples. The L.A.-based, family-owned restaurant has sponsored the event since 2013.
