Russell Wilson Gifts O-Linemen $12K in Amazon Stock After Announcing New Contract

Days after signing a 4-year/$140 million deal that made him the highest paid player in the NFL, Russell Wilson is giving back to each of his offensive linemen in the form of $12,000 in stock from Amazon. TMZ Sports adds that this will set the Seahawks’ signal caller back $156,000 as the deal pertained to dudes who sit as low as third on the depth chart.
In addition to the stock, each of the 13 linemen who got the gift got a letter detailing why they got the gift. If you want, you can read that letter right here, but most of its contents are going to be written below anyway. Your call.
“Every Sunday we go to battle together,” the letter said. “You sacrifice your physical and mental well-being to protect me, which in turn allows me to provide and care for my family. This does not go unnoticed and it is never forgotten.”
Wilson goes on to say that he had a dozen or so ideas for things to get his teammates, but he added that he thought the Amazon stock would be good for their post-playing careers.
“When I sat down to think of ways to honor your dedication a dozen different ideas came to mind. Some were flashy, some were cool, but I wanted to give you something that had a lasting impact. Something that would affect the lives of you, your family, and your children,” the letter continued. “We all have dreams of what we can build and accomplish off the field. One important lesson I have learned thus far in my career: The memories on the field will last forever, but we have to constantly prepare for life after football.
“One of the ways I prepare is by investing in companies and ideas that I believe will grow and change the world. One of these companies is Amazon.”
Now, uh, let’s see if we can get an improvement on last year, shall we?
