Ryan Reynolds Confirms Interest in Buying Senators: “I Need a Sugar Mommy”

Ryan Reynolds confirmed that he is indeed interested in purchasing the Ottawa Senators NHL hockey team on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
During his appearance on the show last night, Fallon asked the Deadpool actor about a recent rumour circulating about his desire to buy the Senators.
“I am trying to do that. It’s very expensive, so you know, I need a partner with really deep pockets,” Reynolds said.
The rumour was first reported by People magazine following word that the team’s current owners were considering putting it up for sale.
“It’s called a consortium – when you form a group together to buy an entity. It’s a fancy way of saying I need a sugar mommy or a sugar daddy. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll buy a U.S. Senator, which anyone can afford,” Reynolds joked.
Reynolds is no stranger to being a professional sports team owner. In 2021, he co-purchased the Welsh football club Wrexham AFC alongside It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney.
Reynolds is Vancouver-born but spent a large portion of his upbringing nearby Ottawa where he developed his love of hockey, Canada’s national winter sport.
“Children are eased out of the womb in ice skates in Canada. That’s how they’re born. They’re ready to go. NHL-ready by the time they’re four,” Reynolds laughed.
Former Sens owner Eugene Melnyk passed away in 2022. His daughters Anna and Olivia Melnyk currently run the team.
