Ryan Reynolds is taking “a little sabbatical” from making movies.

In a lengthy note to fans on Saturday, the actor commemorated the recent wrap on shooting for Spirited, which is billed as a modern rendition of A Christmas Carol that also stars Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer. Per Reynolds, the experience of putting this film together was a particularly “challenging” one, although the rewards were high.

“Singing, dancing, and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true,” Reynolds said on Instagram. “And this is my second film with the great [Octavia Spencer]…Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists.”

Tucked into the ensuing comments on Reynolds’ IG post was a playful one from Blake Lively, who used the opportunity to bring up the press confusion surrounding Michael Caine’s non-retirement.

“Michael Caine did it first,” Lively joked.

Early Saturday, notably, Caine himself shared a tweet noting that he was in fact not retiring, despite previous reports suggesting otherwise.

As for Reynolds, he’s already confirmed the eventual arrival of a Free Guy sequel after the original’s impressive opening weekend in August. Reynolds’ co-star Jodie Comer is also up for the task of returning to the Free Guy universe.

“Aaaannnnd after 3 years messaging #FreeGuy as an original IP movie, Disney confirmed today they officially want a sequel. Woo hoo!” Reynolds wrote on Twitter at the time, tongue-in-cheekishly adding in the #irony hashtag.
