Saints Ticket Holders File Lawsuit to Replay NFC Championship

The fire sparked by this year’s NFC Championship game is still raging as Saints season ticket holders are seeking legal action against the NFL.
After thoroughly reading the NFL rulebook, several Saints fanatics discovered a clause where the league commissioner has the power to negate the outcome of a game.
Under Rule 17, Section 2, Article 1, it states: “The Commissioner has the sole authority to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary and/or corrective measures if any club action, non-participant interference, or calamity occurs in an NFL game which the Commissioner deems so extraordinarily unfair or outside the accepted tactics encountered in professional football that such action has a major effect on the result of the game.”
This rule is similar to hitting “reset” on GameCube. Basically, what it outlines is if the game was decided by outside forces (like a no-call on a clear penalty) then commissioner Rodger Goodell can either award the wronged team the victory or force the two franchises to replay the contest.
Saints fans believe that this loophole applies to the referees and Rams cornerback Nickell-Robey Coleman. As a result, New Orleans attorney Frank D’Amico, Jr. has filed a suit on behalf of Saints’ season ticket holders that looks to force Roger Goodell to exercise his authority and make the Rams and Saints replay the NFC Championship game.
However, for this to happen, the NFL would have to do one of their famously long internal investigations. Also, it must be proven that the Saints did not have a chance to win after the incident — which isn’t the case, as the game went into overtime. Yet, despite the technicalities, it is entertaining to see how far fans will go for their team.
