The United States Coast Guard is searching for a man who jumped overboard on a Carnival cruise headed for Florida.
TMZ reports the vessel was on its last leg of the voyage between Grand Turk to Port Canaveral, which is east of Orlando, Florida, when the man went overboard.
A passenger told the outlet that she was on deck “early Saturday morning when two teenagers came running past her in a panic. She told them to slow down so they wouldn’t hurt themselves, and that’s when they screamed someone had gone overboard.”
The cruise line’s crew immediately began search and rescue efforts to find the passenger, but have been unable to locate him.
A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise told Cruise Radio, “The crew of Carnival Mardi Gras reported to the U.S. Coast Guard that an adult male guest jumped overboard early Saturday morning during the ship’s return to Port Canaveral.”
The spokesperson added, “The ship’s crew participated in search and rescue efforts until the ship was released by the U.S. Coast Guard, which continues the search. The Carnival Care Team is supporting the guest’s family. Mardi Gras will be arriving to Port Canaveral shortly and will be sailing its next itinerary. Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and his family.”
