Selena’s Family to Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Singer’s Death With Huge Concert

Written by on February 23, 2020

The family of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez plans to celebrate her life by putting together a massive concert in her memory.

On Tuesday, the Quintanilla family company Q Productions announced the Selena XXV-Veinticinco Años concert, which will commemorate the 25th anniversary of Selena’s death. This one-day concert will take place on May 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

“We are excited to bring this ultimate fan experience to honor and celebrate my sister, Selena,” CEO/president of Q Productions, Suzette Quintanilla, said in a statement to Billboard. “Over the past 25 years, her influence and relevance have only grown throughout generations. Through our father, Abraham Quintanilla, we were taught to persevere in the face of adversity and to work hard to accomplish our dreams. Those core values, along with her amazing talent and ability to connect with people has helped sustain Selena’s legacy and it is what makes her an impactful and an important role model 25 years later.”

Pitbull, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, A.B. Quintanilla III & Los Kumbia Allstarz, Becky G, Elida & Avante, Ruben Ramos, Pete Astudillo, Gilbert Velasquez, Ricardo Castillón, Ally Brooke, Isabel Marie, and The Lab have been tapped by Q Productions to honor Selena with performances at the concert. There will also be a laser tribute show to close out the concert.

Selena was regarded as the Queen of Tejano music. She and her brother, A.B. Quintanilla III—who produced most of her hits—helped usher this genre into the mainstream. But her career was tragically cut short. On March 31, 1995, at the age of 23, Selena was shot and killed by her agent, Yolanda Saldívar.

“My family and I are excited to celebrate this special moment of her 25 year legacy in San Antonio, Texas with her fans around the world,” Quintanilla continued. “San Antonio and the Alamodome have always held a special place in our hearts and we’re honored that the city of San Antonio has welcomed us.”

The city echoes Quintanilla’s sentiments. In an official statement, San Antonio Mayor, Ron Nirenberg, said that the city is “committed” to having the Selena XXV-Veinticinco Años concert live up to the expectations. Tickets are already available at the Alamodome Box Office or via Ticketmaster. Visit www.selena25.com for performance schedules and other information on the concert.
