Shawne Merriman Wants Vontaze Burfict to Join His MMA League

Former NFL superstar Shawne Merriman is offering Vontaze Burfict another stream of revenue while he serves his suspension.
Merriman heads the Lights Out Xtreme Fighting (LXF) league, which focuses on developing fighters into MMA stars. During a conversation with TMZ, Merriman pitched the idea of Burfict channeling his aggressive nature into an MMA career with his organization. “I just talked to my partners right now,” Merriman said. “We want to make Vontaze Burfict an offer to come and fight.”
The NFL suspended Burfict without pay for the rest of the season following his illegal hit on tight end Jack Doyle. The league also discovered that Burfict laid another illegal shot on running back Nyheim Hines before the hit that got him ejected. His years-old reputation as a dirty player didn’t help him either.
While Burfict is on the sidelines, Merriman and LXF are ready to give him a second chance despite his track record.
“He’s going to have a lot of time on his hands and he needs to put it to good use,” Merriman said. “So, bring some of that aggression over here.”
