Shootout Between FedEx Driver and Robber Ends With One Wounded, One Dead

Written by on December 19, 2019

On Tuesday night a man who tried to rob a FedEx vehicle was shot and killed by the driver, according to police. In addition to the would-be robber being fatally wounded, the FedEx driver was also hit by gunfire, though he is currently recovering. The incident happened around 7 p.m. in Northeast Philadelphia

Police Sgt. Eric Gripp says the violent clash went down when the deceased, identified as 27-year-old Jevan Lundy, used a gun to try and rob the 32-year-old driver of his wallet and keys. Used would be the operative word here, as the driver was shot in the abdomen. He then returned fire by putting bullets in Lundy’s chest and back.

Police say that the driver’s gun was legally registered.

As for where they went from there, the driver was taken to a hospital, he’s in stable condition at the moment. Lundy was also taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at roughly 8:30 p.m.

Police have reportedly been light with details, though they did state that they recovered a weapon at the scene, and also got the driver’s FedEx badge off of Lundy.

Another man was found with Lundy, and that person’s car was subesquently searched. They believe that he used his car to drive Lundy away from the scene. Bullet casings were found on the floor of that car. It’s not clear if that man will face charges.

“He is speaking to us, of course not portraying that he had any involvement with this robbery,” said Philadelphia Police Dept. Captain Jason Smith of Lundy’s associate.

This latest shooting comes just a few weeks after a UPS worker in Florida, 27-year-old Frank Ordonez, was killed in the midst of a shootout between police and robbery suspects after his truck was hijacked. Those robbery suspects are also dead.

As for the victim in Philadelphia, police found him slumped over the steering wheel of his truck in a parking lot. He relayed his side of the story to officers.

“Based on the preliminary story that was relayed, it appears to be self-defense: he was shot first, he fired back,”  said Christine Coulter, the Acting Police Commissioner.
