Some Fans Are Convinced Nicki Minaj Is Rapping About Cardi B on “Transformer”

Written by on October 19, 2018

Friday, Future and Juice WRLD shared a collab project that we only just recently learned even existed. The 16-track WRLD on Drugs tape boasts multiple features, including Young Thug and Lil Wayne. But it’s Nicki Minaj on the ATL Jacob-produced “Transformer” that’s been grabbing attention because some fans are completely convinced that Cardi B is the subject.

It’s worth noting that Cardi’s name isn’t directly mentioned and these lines could just as easily be attributed to someone else Minaj felt was due some ire. But it’s 2018 and we’ve already lived through an altercation between the two.

Anyway, here are the lines in question:

Four albums in, pull a milli for a show

While these bitches is servin’ Milli Vanilli on the low

Spent my money on some dope, where my money envelope?

Transform into a Billy ’cause I really am the goat

Transformer, I just popped a transformer

Master bathroom, two jacuzzis, and a sauna

They ain’t warn her

Now she out here facing karma

Had a chance, but got at me now she’s a goner

Where my bad bitches? Fuck these n****s give them trauma

Coulda fixed his life but now that n**** need Iyanla

All his friends tryna kill it, eat it J.A. Dahmer

N****s snakes but, stupid, I’m the snake charmer

This a different tax bracket, upper echelon

I’m still the bad guy, I am Decepticon

Some call me Nicki but some call me Megatron

I’m stoppin’ bags and I don’t need a red octagon

Namely, some fans have pointed to the Milli Vanilli and karma references. The “got at me” bit is also being discussed, though it’s again worth noting that Minaj makes zero direct references in the track to Cardi and—even if you want to call it shade—not every jab has to be considered an outright diss. Sometimes people just like to generally talk shit.

At any rate, here’s what some fans are saying about Minaj’s “Transformer” lines:

All of this lyrical theorizing is also fueled by recent events, such as Cardi throwing a shoe at Minaj at a Harper’s Bazaar-hosted Fashion Week party last month. “I’ve worked [too] hard and come too far to let anybody fuck with my success!” Cardi later said on Instagram. “Bitches talk all that shit in they raps but in real life they pussy! This shit really is for entertainment!”

The tensions aren’t completely their fault either. Earlier this month, for example, Cardi shared screenshots of text messages refuting a TMZ report about a diss track that apparently doesn’t even exist.
