Some Fans Think Cardi B Breakup Is Just Promo for Offset’s Album

One year after eloping, Cardi B announced via Instagram that her romantic relationship with Offset has come to an end. As people woke up to the news, some reacted with grief, others with joy, and most with cool expectation. There are also a lot of jokes like this one:
And there are some who see a larger scheme surrounding their split. With Offset’s debut solo album coming out in less than two weeks, on Dec. 14, people are speculating the breakup message is a marketing move orchestrated to boost numbers.
It might seem far-fetched, but considering how much money Beyoncé and JAY-Z made off the Lemonade era and everything that followed, it’s not impossible to imagine their personal woes being used to milk streams. Cardi said it herself in the breakup message: “We’re really good friends and you know we’re really good business partners.” The Bronx rapper is also reportedly featured on Offset’s album.
Still, divorces are hard and no one wins. The two rappers have a daughter together, Kulture Kiari Cephus, who was born in July and is likely their top priority at this time. “I’m always going to have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father,” Cardi said.
Some Cardi fans have been pressuring her to break up with Offset for a while, after various cheating rumors surfaced over the past year. She frequently deflected, telling Cosmo earlier this year, “I want to work out my shit with my man.”
Offset seems to address that pressure in a comment on Cardi’s post. “Y’all won,” he wrote.
