‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Early Reactions Are In
Written by SOURCE on December 17, 2019
Early reactions to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker have started to pile up after its world premiere on Monday. As is always the case with writing an entire piece about tweeted reactions to movies that aren’t actually out yet, all of this should be approached with caution, though there appears to be at least one common thread among the batch of early commentary.
The New York Times‘ Kyle Buchanan, for example, said the J.J. Abrams-directed movie “could only have been ruder” to The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson by way of motion-smoothing it. Laura Prudom of IGN, meanwhile, said Abrams’ movie—though it contains highs that are “spectacular”—has moments that feel like Abrams was trying to craft an “unnecessary course-correct” from the events of Last Jedi.
Overall, these early reactions to the movie tasked with closing out an entire saga lean in a largely positive direction, though multiple viewers argued that it felt like too many moments of an expository nature made it to the final cut.
And while it’s always best to just see a movie for yourself in a valiant effort to make up your own mind, feel free to bide time until Skywalker‘s wide release by perusing more early reactions below:
The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters Dec. 20. Ahead of the big day, members of the cast (sans Adam Driver) stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live for a round of Family Feud and some theft confessionals.
