Apple TV+ has been on the way for a long time, but now the streaming service is finally around the corner. Ahead of its launch this fall, Apple has shared the first trailer for one of its most-anticipated series, The Morning Show. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Reese Witherspoon, Mark Duplass, and Billy Crudup among others, the first trailer gives a preview of the drama surrounding a fallout related to allegations leveled against a news anchor.
If The Morning Show‘s story seems familiar, that’s because it bears a striking resemblance to the downfall of former NBC anchor Matt Lauer, who was fired in 2017 following sexual harassment allegations. The trailer starts with Aniston’s character addressing some unmentioned allegations against her former co-host played by Carrell. It’s not clear what his character did, but from there a new co-host played by Witherspoon is brought in.
Directed by Mimi Leder (The Leftovers) and written by Kerry Ehrin (Bates Motel), the show still doesn’t have a firm release date. The trailer does promise it will be “coming soon,” but until then this preview is all we have to go off. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Karen Pittman, Bel Powley, and Jainina Gavankar also co-star. Meanwhile, Aniston and Witherspoon are serving as executive producers alongside Kristin Hahn, Lauren Levy Neustadter, and Michael Ellenberg.
