StockX Reaches Settlement on Class Action Lawsuit Over Hidden Fees

Written by on April 3, 2023

A class action lawsuit filed against clothing and sneaker reseller StockX has reached a settlement in Quebec.

The lawsuit alleged that certain prices listed on StockX’s website hid various fees from customers, which goes against Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act.

Those eligible for the settlement must have purchased a product on the website using the “Buy Now” function between Jan 8, 2019, and Feb 3, 2023, and must also have lived in Quebec during the time of purchase.

Those who fit the criteria will receive a credit of $8 CAD, per eligible transaction with a maximum of five transactions, equivalent to $40 CAD.

Though the lawsuit has reached a settlement, the Superior Court of Quebec will hold a hearing on May 16, 2023, to ensure that the settlement is “fair, reasonable, and in the best interests of the Settlement Class Members.”

Those who wish to exclude themselves from the class action suit may do so by filling out the opt-out form on the settlement website. Those who stay, however, cannot sue or take part in any other lawsuit against StockX that touches on the subject of this lawsuit.

In 2022, StockX settled a Canadian lawsuit regarding a data breach that occurred in May 2019 when “an unknown third-party was able to gain unauthorized access to certain customer data from StockX’s cloud environment.”
