Despite everything else going on in the world, Lil Wayne has still managed to stay consistent in delivering his increasingly successful and interesting Young Money Radio every Friday afternoon.
In episode 7 of the radio show last week, Wayne was joined by Killer Mike, Washington D.C Mayor Muriel Bowser, Chris Paul, Snoop Dogg, Bun B, and Stephen Jackson to have a much-needed conversation about the state of the nation and protests happening nation-wide.
During the episode, Wayne touched on his conflicting feelings towards police officers because he was saved by one after he accidentally shot himself when he was 12-years-old. On the contrary, he also grew up in a New Orleans area with an extremely aggressive police presence.
“I’m from New Orleans, 17th, Hollygrove,” Wayne said. “We have a thing called ‘Jump out boys.’ Uptown New Orleans. That’s the police. They pull up on you they already got they door cracked. … So many of them jump out. They ain’t coming after you to ask you ‘How you doing? What’s your name? And how’s your day?'”
This week, Wayne looks to be joined by T-Pain and Nicki Minaj, among others.
Nicki will be talking to Wayne after recently featuring on the song “Trollz” with the infamous 6ix9ine, which dropped late Thursday night. Prior to the song being released, Nicki hopped on Instagram Live with 6ix9ine to explain that while she respects street code when it comes to denouncing rats, she also thinks that many rappers shouldn’t have a say in the matter because they don’t live the lives they rap about anymore.
“I feel street niggas have every right to feel how they want to feel about snitching because they live that life,” Nicki said. “I feel rappers need to play it easy because everybody mingles and integrates with everybody, and if a top executive rat calls one of y’all unsigned rappers right now, y’all signing … Let’s be clear when we talk about rappers versus street niggas.”
She went on to explain that they aren’t on the streets anymore, rather in the music business.
“You rappers are in rooms all the time with people with sketchy pasts,” she continued. “I’m not judging anybody … I have so much respect for so many of these people … [but] none of you niggas are from the block. If these nigga are still out there doing what they’re doing and really living that life want to talk about it, I gotta respect it because they play by a different code … But as far as rappers they gotta just play it easy, ’cause y’all know y’all bend the rules for certain people … Talking ’bout snitches when there’s snitches in your camp.”
Wayne will also be joined by T-Pain. The two have a storied history together, collaborating on several successful hits together and even recording a joint mixtape—T-Wayne—back in 2009 that would later be released for free streaming in 2017.
