The Verzuz Instagram Live battles have featured some of the biggest artists, writers, and producers in the game. We’ve seen RZA vs. DJ Premier, T-Pain vs. Lil Jon, French Montana vs. Tory Lanez, and Mannie Fresh vs. Scott Storch, just to name a few. Though these head-to-heads provided plenty of memorable and entertaining moments, it’s now time for the women to get in on the action.
Tonight’s installment features previous collaborators and fellow Grammy winners Jill Scott and Erykah Badu.
Timbaland, who launched the Verzuz series with Swizz Beatz back in March, announced the battle earlier this month, writing: “It’s time for the Queens …”
The battle will go down 20 years after Scott released her debut album, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1. Since then, the multi-hyphenate has gifted the world with some of the most beloved R&B-soul records, including “Golden,” “Hate on Me,” “So In Love” with Anthony Hamilton, “So Gone (What My Mind Says)” featuring Paul Wall, and “Blessed.”
Badu’s discography is also impressive, having delivered critically acclaimed tracks “On & On,” “Southern Gul,” “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip-Hop) assisted by Common, “Soldier,” and “Turn Me Away (Get Munny).”
In celebration of the event, Badu released a batch of Verzuz merch on her website. The collection includes is hoodies and graphic tees in black, white, gold, and orange colorways. It’s also available on Scott’s website.
Tonight’s battle will be presented in partnership with Femme It Forward, a Live Nation series that celebrates women in entertainment. You can stream Verzuz now on Scott and Badu‘s respective Instagram accounts.
