More than two years after releasing his debut project, American Teen, singer-songwriter Khalid has returned with the much anticipated follow-up Free Spirit.
The 17-track album, which was formally announced back in February, includes the previously released singles “My Bad,” “Talk,” and “Safe,” as well as the Suncity records “Better” and “Saturday Nights.”
“Oh my God. Releasing another body of work, an album, it’s just so amazing to me,” Khalid said during a recent interview with Zane Lowe. “One that I have the ability to release another album but that I have the demand behind me that people are like, ‘We need it, we need it, we need.’”
He went on to describe the project as “so true to just life,” as it reflects everything he and his friends were going through over the last several years.
“[…] It’s a little bit more mature and it’s a little bit more adult and it’s this coming of age,” Khalid added, “but it’s still like … it’s still 21.”
Free Spirit includes contributions from John Mayer, Safe, Hit-Boy, and Safe. You can purchase the album now on iTunes or stream it on Apple Music and Spotify.
Khalid is also set to perform at Coachella this month, and will kick off his Free Spirit Tour in June.
