Sacramento’s very own Mozzy has arrived to deliver his fifth studio album Beyond Bulletproof. The 13-track project boasts features from G Herbo, Polo G, Eric Bellinger, and several others as well. Mozzy recently sat down with Complex via Facetime prior to its release to discuss his creative process, growth as an artist and man, and why this album looks to be his favorite thus far.
“All the growth, the growth in it,” Mozzy said of his feelings towards the project. “It’s me, me elevating as a man. Me tapping into myself and being able to give, you know, in-depth descriptions. I just love it, it’s soulful, it’s soulful. I know if my grandmother was still present, she’ll love it. She always used to tell me to just make sure there’s substance in there. There’s so much substance in there.”
When asked how he would describe himself going into this album, Mozzy said that he felt like he’s “so much more than I was. I actually care, I actually care about living, I actually care about others prospering.”
Accompanying the album was a music video for one of its songs, “Boyz to Men.” The visuals for the video parallel the gritty lyrics of the song, with Mozzy shown in a dimly lit warehouse hallway flashing a kaleidoscope of colors.
Speaking of videos, in tandem with the drop of Beyond Bulletproof, Mozzy shared the music video for “Unethical & Deceitful.”
Mozzy also recently teamed up with The Bail Project—a national nonprofit organization aimed to provide free bail assistance to thousands—on Instagram Live last week to discuss ways to help towards prison reform.
