Stretch and Bobbito on Debut Album “No Requests” and Hip-Hop in 2020

Written by on January 17, 2020

Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Garcia are hip-hop legends in their own right. In the ’90s, through their radio program The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show, the New York City-based duo introduced the world to younger versions of rap’s biggest stars, from Jay-Z to Biggie to Nas.

Now, a few decades later, Stretch and Bobbito are ready to take their own stab at making music. Their debut album, No Requests (a pretty cheeky title for a couple radio DJs), is out today. The radio legends curated and produced this collection of songs for 10-time Grammy winner Eddie Palmieri’s new label Uprising Music, enlisting an A-list class of musicians—called The M19s Band—to bring to life a record that effortlessly blends countless genres, from soul to jazz to reggae to samba. We caught up with them to talk about how the new project came together, and where they see hip-hop going in this new decade.

Check out some tracks from No Requests below.
