Supreme Unveils Upcoming Collaboration With Reggae Artist Buju Banton

Written by on June 24, 2019

Supreme’s collaborations have become more frequent in recent years, and the streetwear behemoth shows no signs of slowing down. The brand has collaborated with sports teams, sneaker retailers, leading jewelers, and French courtiers, and that’s just in 2019. Most recently, Supreme teased their upcoming partnership with Jamaican dancehall and reggae icon Buju Banton

The Grammy-winning singer first arrived on the scene in the early ’90s, after releasing two widely applauded projects Stamina Daddy and Mr. Mention. Shortly thereafter, Benton broke Bob Marley’s record for most No.1 singles in a year in Jamaica. In the mid-aughts, he received five Grammy nominations and won the award for Best Reggae Album in 2011 for his LP, Before the Dawn.

In 2018, he was released from prison after completing a seven-year sentence for illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute. Shortly thereafter, he debuted the record “Country for Sale,” which comments on the ways in which Jamaica has been negatively affected by greed.

In terms of his collaboration with Supreme, it remains unclear what products will be included in the collection. In the past, the brand has featured artists’ portraits printed across Supreme tees, which may provide some foresight into Banton’s release. According to Hypebeastthe brand has yet to unveil the release date for the upcoming collection, nor have they revealed the scope of the partnership.
