T-Pain Is Off the Road After Doctor Told Him He Was Close to Permanently Damaging Voice

Written by on April 26, 2019

T-Pain is taking some time off the road after being warned by a doctor that his recent rigorous schedule was putting him at risk for permanent voice damage.

In a video statement shared to his Instagram Thursday, the Grammy winner apologized to fans and confirmed that affected dates were in the process of being rescheduled. According to what T-Pain heard from his doctor, he had no choice but to hit the pause button on touring for the time being.

“What’s good, man, it’s your homeboy T-Pain, fucking obviously,” he said in a video from the studio. “There’s been a lot of work I’ve been doing. I just got off tour. Sometimes I was doing two shows a day, entertaining the people, going to afterparties, and doing my thing. Just working, working, working, working, working. The truth of the matter is I just haven’t been taking care of myself. So, after my last couple shows, I started getting a few pains in my throat and stuff like that so I went to the doctor and he basically told me that I had to get off the road immediately or I was gonna start doing permanent damage to my voice.”

Noting that his voice is “the most important part of what I got going on,” T-Pain added that he was given a “shot in my ass” and a week-long medicine regimen. “Look man, I definitely wanted to entertain you guys,” he said. “And at the risk of sounding like an asshole, I definitely wanted the money.” For now, however, the most important thing is ensuring that he’s able to keep doing what he loves for “years to come.”

1UP, T-Pain’s sixth album, dropped back in February and features appearances by Lil Wayne, Flipp Dinero, Tory Lanez, and more.
