Tackling Black Issues Head On, ‘The Chi’ Season 3 Premieres Tonight

Written by on June 21, 2020

Over the years, outraged citizens have protested the unjust treatment of Black and Brown bodies in America. Today is no different as a string of recent deaths of unarmed Black people—Ahmaud Arbery (Feb.), Breonna Taylor (Mar.), and George Floyd (May)—has sparked civil unrest across the nation. As conversations surrounding the state of racial injustice in America increase, the SHOWTIME series The Chi returns with a timely third season that continues the hourlong drama’s gripping depictions of hope and perseverance among people of color living in the Windy City.

Growing up on the Southside isn’t easy when you’re part of the minority. That fact is brought to light this season, as each episode pushes the envelope by addressing various issues relevant to the Black community while also magnifying the glue that threads families together: the Black woman. With themes ranging from the kidnapping of young Black girls and police brutality to PTSD and mental health, The Chi is poised to create some much-needed dialogue at a time when the world needs it most.

SHOWTIME

Chapter three of the Lena Waithe and Common-created drama also features a star-studded list of cameo performers—including LaLa Anthony, Kandi Burruss, Lil Rel Howery, and Luke James, among others—who will help showcase all facets of the Black experience by breathing life in to these powerful and captivating characters.

Check out the trailer below and get ready for the season 3 premiere of The Chi tonight on SHOWTIME at 9 PM ET/PT.
