Taj Jackson Seeking $777K to Fund Documentary Series Defending Michael Jackson

Written by on April 3, 2019

Michael Jackson’s nephew Taj Jackson has made it clear that he’s not happy with the resulting fallout from HBO’s Leaving Neverland documentary, which closesly inspects allegations of sexual abuse against numerous then-minors by the pop singer. The 45-year-old son of former Jackson 5 member Tito Jackson has defended MJ after the airing of the documentary, but now he’s looking to take it a step further.

In an interview with Billboard, Jackson has stated that he’s seeking to create his own documentary that defends MJ and looks into his relationship with the media. “I knew I had to be someone out in front fighting for my uncle,” he explained. “I’m not combating Leaving Neverland. I’m doing a documentary about the media’s relationship with my uncle and how they’ve reported certain things as factual that were lies. I’m going to go back all the way to 1993 with the first allegation and uncover that along with the 2005 allegations.” He added that it’s “going to debunk” the allegations against his uncle. “I want to get the truth out there,” he said.

Throughout the interview he denies all the allegations leveled against MJ, insisting that he was completely innocent. “I don’t want someone watching Leaving Neverland a hundred years from now and thinking it’s true. I want there to be a counter argument that debunks everything,” he continued. Asked if he found proof that the allegations are true, he said he would still document it.

When asked if he’s ever thought that MJ could have sexually abused children during his liftime, he insisted that he never has. “It’s not me being naïve; it’s me knowing who he is,” he said. My uncle was the type that would see a kid suffering on the news and he would be on the phone anonymously donating money to the cause.” He is seeking $777,000 for his untitled documentary series, and has so far raised just over $110,000.

Taj Jackson previously opened up about his own experiences with abuse, revealing on Twitter in 2013 that MJ was “a support system” for him after he revealed he was molested as a child.
